These 5 Snacks are Made Out of Petroleum-Based Products

June 14, 2016 - By admin

This is pretty scary stuff. The ingredients that are added to make certain products more appealing to children have been linked to cancer!

It’s a huge market. Kids will always want the products linked to their favorite TV show, or the food that’s made in a fun shape and bright colors. Parents often fall foul of pester power!

The coloring is a huge problem.  Kids love the bright colors, but some of them are made from petroleum. Namely Yellow 5 (tartrazine) and Red 40. You’ll find these two in a massive range of foods that you’ve probably got in your house right now, but they are known to cause cancer, allergic reactions and hyperactivity.

These two colorings are banned in the UK but in the US they are still widely used!

It’s a good idea to check all your food products, especially if they are brightly colored, but here is a list of just a few that definitely contain these nasty additives…

Pop Tarts

If you love your frosted strawberry Pop Tarts, then you may need to find an alternative. Of course we know they’re packed with sugar, but they also contain TBHQ, this petroleum-based ingredient has caused major health problems in lab animals such as loss of vision, tumors, paralysis, convulsions and liver damage.

Fruit flavored sweets

These gummy sweets look delicious, but they contain Red 3 (erythrosine). This petroleum-based ingredient is actually banned in the cosmetics industry due to a link with thyroid tumors. You’re not allowed to have it in contact with your skin. Do you really want to be eating it?

M&Ms

You’d think good old M&Ms would be safe right? Wrong! They contain Blue 1 which can trigger tumor development, Blue 2 which can cause brain tumors and hyperactivity, Red 40 which damages DNA and if that wasn’t enough they also contain Yellow 5 and 6 which have been linked to cancer.

Cheetos

It’s not just the sweet stuff. Both the coloring and the cheese flavor in Cheetos are petroleum-based.

Teddy Grahams

These cute snacks harbor a sinister secret. They contain TBHQ which causes stomach cancer in lab animals. It can damage DNA, cause lung problems and increase the symptoms of ADHD.

It’s very important to pick snacks for your children that contain only natural colors and flavorings!
